Summary: Things seem so magical when they're together.
Author's Note: Written for 100_themes, challenge fifty-seven. (Gunslinger Girl: Because when the mass-murders are over, everything is warm and fluffy again.) I actually don't like this one very much, but hey, I wrote it at three in the morning after hardly any sleep. Go me.



There are many things the Social Welfare Agency has given Rico. The most important, she nods to herself, being her body.

“Good morning, Rico!” Henrietta’s familiar voice wafts down from the top bunk. “It’s a nice day out. Let’s do some laundry.”

It’s a simple thing, she reflects, hanging laundry out to dry. Her blue eyes glance to the side to meet Henrietta’s brown ones. The older girl smiles at Rico and something in her stomach flutters, her cheeks tinging pink.

To her, this tiny, insignificant act seems like so much more. She studies the linen hanging off the line. Almost... magical.

And there’s something, she thinks, about having Henrietta here with her. Looking up to the morning sky, she hopes that they will always be together.
